Safety Not Guaranteed

If Ryan Miller’s score is anything to go by, SNG tries desperately hard to be Eternal Sunshine. Alas, whereas Gondry’s film successfully married sci-fi to a powerfully emotional core, this effort would be overwhelmingly painting-by-numbers if it weren’t quite so pedestrian. It has its charms, not least the delights of Aubrey Plaza in the lead role she deserves, but even at 81 minutes the film grates. Enjoyment not guaranteed.
