Private Life of Sherlock Holmes, The

A revisionist text decades ahead of the Moffat/Gatiss miniseries, Wilder’s mischievous take on the figure is such a pleasure that it’s almost a shame when the tale develops as a more straight-faced mystery, albeit heightened and playfully anachronistic. Nonetheless it is a pleasurable yarn, well-performed, with an enchanting Miklos Rozsa score.
