The character Gollum is such a fantastic presence in this film (and brilliantly performed), it’s a shame some of the other new additions aren’t so much fun to watch, and the now-talking orcs the wrong side of cheesy. Still, Jackson and co did well to expand our perception of Middle Earth a great deal, the imagery is fantastic, and everything’s set up nicely for that big finale.
