Revisiting Iron Man (for Avengers homework) I enjoyed it a great, great deal more this time round. The setup was good, the storytelling was good, RDJ and Paltrow were great – even the character development was handled well. It was all somewhat solid.

I was shocked. Where was the underwhelming movie I had seen back in ’08?

Then it arrived via a horribly average third act. A preposterously melodramatic villain and conspiracy and a big climactic brawl that’s good for the trailers but thoroughly dull in execution. Yeuck.

A real pity, because the first hour was something great.
