“The most delirious Hollywood movie I’ve ever seen” – Matt Groening

Indeed it’s pretty crazy how the film shifts from comedy musical to noir melodrama and back and forth and never the same thing for long. The characterisation isn’t wonderfully consistent, but Richard Whorf is a charismatic lead, Don Siegel’s insanity montage all over the place (in a good way) and the famous titular song superb.
