Beasts of the Southern Wild
When six year old ‘Hushpuppy’ (Quvenzhané Wallis) refers in her Zeitlin and Alibar-scripted voiceover to the “Iced Age” [sic], all hope is lost. This exceptionally terrible production is a Kids Say the Darndest Things for the arthouse crowd – as presented by a street drunk slurring his every word in ever-surprising waves of incoherence.
I still haven’t seen it, but I just think the idea of that kid having been nominated for Best Actress at the age of five is silly. A five year old doesn’t have past experiences to draw from when acting. There’s no method or talent there, she’s basically just playing make believe for two hours.
I think she was 9, but yeah. She’s “kind of a cunt”.
According to wikipedia she was five when the film was made.
Wowzers.
