I’d rather have the blues than what I’ve got
By 1955, noir had reached its most delirious form in Robert Aldrich’s Kiss Me Deadly. P.I. Mike Hammer is brilliantly unsympathetic, even sadistic, as he’s unwittingly thrown into a vague conspiracy which he pursues more out of desire for revenge than sentimentality. Stripped down and savage, it’s an intimidating film that encapsulates emotion of primal power. Excellent.
